MIXED FRUIT COMPOTE / KOMPOSTA ANAMIKTI
A dessert made from fruits mixed together in cinnamon and cloves syrup

NEW YEAR CAKE / VASSILOPITTA
Vassilopitta is traditionally served on New Year's Day. Whoever is lucky enough to find the hidden coin in their serving must be careful not to bite on it!

NUT STUFFED LADY'S FINGERS / THAKTYLA KYPRIAKA
Crisp pastry, covered in a sweet syrup and filled with a delicious nutty centre - be sure to make plenty as your guests will keep coming back for more. Rose water is available from good health food shops and delicatessens.

ORANGE & WALNUTS
Oranges and Walnuts are blended together with flower water. Served with fresh mint.

PISTACHIO HALVA ICE CREAM
This mouth-watering ice cream brings the flavour from the pistachio nuts. To make an ideal summers dessert.

RIZOGALO
A Greek pudding made from rice, milk, rose water, decorated with cinnamon and rose petals.

SPOON SWEETS / GLIKA KOUTALIOU
Make their jars of tempting sweets when the fruits are in season, as they keep for several months stored in a cool, dry place. The Greeks would serve these sweets to visitors, with a cup of coffee and a glass of iced water. Spoon a few pieces of fruit with a little of the syrup out on to small dishes for guests to help themselves.

SWEET CHEESE PASTRIES / KALTSOUNIA CRETIS
This recipe originates from the island of Crete, where Kaltsounia Cretis can be found fresh from the oven in bakery shops day or night. The cheese for the filling is available from good Greek delicatessens. These pastries will keep for two weeks in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.

WALNUT PASTRIES / KARITHOPITAKIA
Homemade pastry filled with walnuts, grated nutmeg and brushed with rose water.

YOGHURT CAKE
This cake is made from yoghurt, lemon zest and nicely decorated with icing sugar.
